How to find quality Water Ski
Accessories & Watersports equipment
Finding the right water ski accessories will help you have a fun and enjoyable time at the lake. Quality watersports equipment is a necessity for safe and enjoyable waterskiing, wakeboarding, or tubing. Many discount houses offer low prices that lure you into buying accessories and supplies that may not provide the level of performance you are expecting. The lowest price up front may end up costing you more in the long run, due to ongoing repair or replacement of failed, or worn out equipment.
There are many "entry level" ski ropes, which are made up of fewer strands of material than more expensive, tournament style ropes. While these ropes are ok for occasional use, they stretch more, and wear out much quicker, than other ropes. A good quality, tournament ski rope, will provide many years of service when properly cared for. When pulling tubes or inflatable toys, be sure to use a larger rope than you would use for skiing. This type of use puts much more strain on not only the rope, but also on the tow attachment or ski pylon. If a rope, or any piece of equipment should break under load, it can "shoot" back into the boat, possibly causing damage to the boat, and/or personal injury to passengers. Buy tow ropes that are heavy enough to do the job to enjoy trouble free, and safe towing.
Water skis and wakeboards are available in different styles and designs, to accomodate the skill of the user. Water skis for the novice are more forgiving, allowing room for error when trying to learn balance and technique. The advanced skier will prefer a stiffer ski, which provides faster acceleration. The bottom design on these types of skis also provides quicker turning capability, by allowing the ski to roll over on edge much easier. Wakeboards are available with different design elements to accomodate different riding styles. Features such as rocker, flex, tip design, fin size, and fin placement, all have an effect on the characteristics of any wakeboard. Your wakeboarding style and experience will determine the right set up for you.
The most important item you will need for any watersports activity is a good life jacket. Also called PFD's (personal flotation device), these need to be correctly sized to fit the wearer, so that they provide adequate flotation to keep the wearer upright, and stay in place during a high speed fall. Many skiers also wear ski gloves which allow you to get a better grip on a ski handle, and also allow you to ski for longer periods before your hands tire out. Wetsuits primarily provide protection from the cold, but also can help to protect arms and legs from the sting of water spray, and also help absorb the impact from falls. Wetsuits are available in different styles to accomodate the various demands of any water sports enthusiasts.
Stay with name brand merchandise, and take the time to review the many different products currently available. A small amount of time invested in research and comparison shopping, will let you select the right equipment, to get the most enjoyment from your time spent on the water.
